Altiras Recovery Develops Process to Extract Fuel Oil from Oklahoma Acid Tar Pit
Friday, August 22, 2014
Houston TX – Altiras Recovery, a wholly owned subsidiary of Altiras Holdings, announced today it has developed proprietary equipment and processes to extract fuel oil from acid tar.
“This particular acid tar is very high in asphaltene content, containing up to 70% asphaltenes, which is significantly higher than normal commercial asphalt binders. The material is further complicated with very high sulfur oxide content, which makes it acidic by water extraction and very odorous. The sulfur oxide odor is so strong that personnel are not able to work in the area without managing the odor. Asphaltenes are very difficult to put into solution and this material is even more challenging than most.” said Todd Pencarinha, President of Altiras Recovery. “Every other company that has previously tried to utilize the material over the past 30 years has failed.” added Steven Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of Altiras Holdings.
Altiras Recovery developed two separate processes to produce fuel oil from the material while neutralizing it in the process. “This development demonstrates Altiras’ capability to create value for clients that would otherwise face considerable expense in managing waste and environmental projects.” added Mr. Marshall.
The company is currently working to contract with the site owner at a site in Oklahoma to commercialize the process.
