Acetic Acid Reuse and Recycling
Altiras Chemicals can often purchase acetic acid produced as a co-product from the use of acetic anhydride or from other processes. This usually requires acetic acid purity of 90% or more, excluding water content. We can also accept wet acetic acid products for direct use so long as the organic content is almost all acetic acid, although products with more than 50% water content may not be the best candidates due to the high cost of transportation relative to the acetic acid content. Direct use also requires the color to be near colorless and the product to be free of particulates and cloudiness as well as having an odor that is typical of acetic acid. Keep in mind, we buy and sell in bulk quantities of glacial acetic acid only.
When direct reuse is not possible, Altiras offers acetic acid recycling service as a great alternative. Altiras can recycle bulk quantities (full truckload quantities or rail quantities) of acetic acid when the product does not meet the specific requirements for direct reuse. For example, products with higher color, or with heavy organics are generally good candidates for recycling. Besides acetic acid, Altiras can also recycle formic acid, propionic acid, and will consider recycling of other specific organic acids.
