Hydrochloric Acid Recycling & Reuse Services, Instead of Disposal
Altiras specializes in the beneficial reuse of hydrochloric acid (HCL or Muriatic Acid), other inorganic acids, organic acids, and various chemicals. We often reuse spent HCL “as-is” without processing, helping clients avoid disposal costs.
Hydrochloric acid reuse works well in many industrial applications. In some cases, the acid may no longer suit its initial use but remains viable for other purposes. If the acid has a low color and purity above 20%, we can usually reuse it at the origin with a positive value. However, lower-purity products with high color, solids, or unusual odors may still be reused but could incur net costs. These costs depend on operational, logistics, and distance factors. The table below outlines the characteristics of sulfuric acid products suitable for recycling or reuse.
Characteristic | Highest Value | Low or Negative Value |
Sulfuric Acid Concentration, wt% | >20% | 1%-20 |
Color, Pt-Co | <50 | >50 |
Water, wt% | <80% | >80% |
Insoluble solids content, wt% | <0.1% | >0.1% |
Dissolved / Soluble solids content, wt% | <1% | >1% |
Annual Volume, lbs | >500,000 | any full truckloads |
Packaging | bulk rail, truck, tote | bulk rail, truck, tote |
Please note: We strongly prefer to handle spent hydrochloric acid recycling and reuse in full, bulk truckload, or rail tank car quantities. We generally do not handle totes, drums, or smaller containers. We can consider tote quantities for regular, ongoing volumes
