Phosphoric Acid Recycling & Reuse Services, Instead of Disposal
Altiras specializes in the recycling and reuse of inorganic acids, organic acids, and many chemicals. Phosphoric acid reuse depends on the quality of the spent acid. We often reuse spent phosphoric acid “as-is,” eliminating processing and helping clients avoid disposal costs.
Phosphoric acid serves many industrial applications, including phosphating, neutralization, and phosphorus nutrient production. If the acid has a low color and purity above 60%, we can usually reuse it at the origin with a positive value. For products with lower purity, high color, solids, or unusual odors, we still explore reuse options. However, such reuse may incur net costs based on operational, logistics, and distance factors. The table below outlines the characteristics of sulfuric acid products suitable for recycling or reuse.
Characteristic | Highest Value | Low or Negative Value |
Phosphoric Acid Concentration, wt% | >60% | <60% |
Color, Pt-Co | <50 | >50 |
Water, wt% | <40% | >40% |
Insoluble solids content, wt% | <0.1% | >0.1% |
Dissolved / Soluble solids content, wt% | <1% | >1% |
Annual Volume, lbs | >500,000 | any full truckloads |
Packaging | bulk rail, truck, tote | bulk rail, truck, tote |
Please note: We strongly prefer to handle spent phosphoric acid recycling and reuse in full, bulk truckload, or rail tank car quantities. We generally do not handle totes, drums, or smaller containers. We can consider tote quantities for regular, ongoing volumes.
