Altiras is a bulk supplier of 1,3-butylene glycol, often referred to as just “butylene glycol”. Altiras offers this product in synthetic form (denoted by CAS 107-88-0). We also are very happy to offer a naturally derived, green chemistry form of this product (CAS 6290-03-5). 1,3 butylene glycol is a clear, colorless, and odorless liquid. The chemical is commonly used in the formulation of cosmetics and personal care products. This product can be used as a solvent, humectant, and viscosity-decreasing agent.

Why Two Different CAS Numbers?

The naturally derived form of a product commonly has a different CAS number than the synthetic version. We observe this difference not in the chemical formula, or a different isomer of the product, but in the “direction” or the “right-handed” versus “left-handed” nature of the product. In many products derived from nature, it is common for the product to be exclusively from a single chirality (structural right-handedness). Synthetic products often have dual chirality (both right-handedness and left-handedness). For this reason, the natural form of 1,3-butylene glycol we offer has a unique CAS number (6290-03-5). It represents only the right-handed natural form. For almost any reaction, the plant-derived natural product performs the same as the synthetic version.

Altiras is a supplier of butylene glycol in bulk trucks or iso tanks, 275-gallon Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs), or 55-gallon drums.
