Leaders in Beneficial Reuse and Chemical Recycling

The Altiras companies specialize in beneficial reuse, where most products are used “as-is.” However, when products cannot be reused in their original form, they can sometimes be converted into more valuable products. In other cases, recycling is an option. As a chemical recycler, Altiras offers custom recycling solutions for various products.

Chemical Recycling and EPA Regulations

Chemical recycling is generally governed by the definition of solid waste under 40 CFR 261.2. Altiras thoroughly reviews the regulatory treatment of every product we consider for recycling or beneficial reuse.

What Are “Secondary Chemicals”?

Altiras Chemicals buys what we call “secondary chemicals,” a term we’ve coined for non-prime chemicals. These include co-products, byproducts, used chemicals, off-spec chemicals, and surplus chemicals. We specialize in chemical and petroleum product beneficial reuse, and we also purchase prime chemicals to ensure a reliable supply for our customers.

Examples of Beneficial Reuse with Sulfuric Acid Waste

The EPA supports the beneficial reuse of chemical and petroleum products, including sulfuric acid waste. Here are some examples:

Inorganic Acids

  • Used, co-product, and byproduct Sulfuric, Hydrochloric, HF, Phosphoric, Nitric

Organic Acids

  • Used, co-product, and byproduct Formic, Acetic, Propionic, Butyric, Fatty Acids
